Equipment Breakdown Insurance for Manufacturers & Producers
When the encapsulator, the mixer, the packaging line, or the refrigeration fails. The equipment that runs your business and the batch you lose while it's down.
What It Covers
Mechanical, electrical, and pressure system failures.
Standard property insurance covers fire, theft, weather. It does NOT cover internal equipment failures. Equipment breakdown is the line of coverage built specifically for the equipment that runs your operations and the business income loss while you're down.
Pays for
- Equipment repair or replacement after mechanical failure
- Electrical breakdown of motors, control systems, sensors
- Pressure vessel failure (mixers, autoclaves, sterilizers)
- Refrigeration breakdown and spoiled inventory
- Boiler and HVAC system failures
- Business income loss while equipment is down
- Expedited shipping for replacement parts
Common scenarios
- Capsule encapsulator motor burns out mid-run, batch destroyed
- Walk-in refrigeration failure spoils $50K of probiotic inventory
- Bottle filling line down for 3 weeks awaiting parts
- Powder mixer pressure vessel cracks, batch contaminated
- Production-line conveyor failure during peak season
- Compressed air system loss halts entire production
Common Questions
Equipment Breakdown, Plain English
Doesn't my property insurance cover this?
No. Standard property insurance specifically EXCLUDES "mechanical breakdown," "electrical disturbance," and "boiler/machinery" damage. Equipment breakdown is what fills that gap. Most manufacturers have property insurance and don't realize the coverage gap until a piece of production equipment fails.
Do I need this if I use a contract manufacturer?
If you don't own production equipment, probably not. If you own ANY equipment (refrigeration, label printers, in-house bottling, mixers), you should evaluate this coverage. The bigger your equipment investment, the more critical it becomes.
What about business income while I'm down?
Built into most equipment breakdown policies. The "time element" coverage pays for lost income while your equipment is down for repair. Critical for brands with concentrated production capacity.
What does this typically cost?
Depends on the value of equipment you own and your dependence on continuous operation. Often bundled into a Business Owners Policy (BOP) for small manufacturers, written as standalone coverage for larger operations.
Get coverage for the equipment your business depends on.
The day your encapsulator dies is the day this policy pays for itself.
